Local Race Organizers Want Kids to 'Tri-A-Biathlon'

The Tri-a-Biathlon Challenge is a bike/run race for students in grades three through 12. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Southern Lehigh School District in Upper Saucon Township.

A bike/run race called the "Tri-a-Biathlon Challenge" will be held in the Southern Lehigh School District on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The fourth annual Tri-a-Biathlon is for students in grades three through 12.

Students from outside the Southern Lehigh School District are also being invited to compete in the race, which will feature distances that vary according to age and grade level.

The distances are as follows:

  • 4-mile bike race for all levels. The road on which the race is held will be closed and monitored by local police. Volunteers will be stationed along the route, both on bicycle and on the side of the roads. 
  • 1.5 mile run for grades 3 to 6
  • 2.5 mile run for grades 7 to 8 
  • 3.1 mile run for grades 9 to 12
The finish will take place in the Southern Lehigh School District stadium, where the race will be professionally timed by Pretzel City Sports.

All bikes and helmets will be checked prior to the race.

Registration is available online at www.triabiathlon.com. On Friday, Oct. 4, and on the morning of the race, onsite registration will be held at the Joseph P. Liberati Intermediate School, 5438 Rt. 378, Bethlehem.

There is a $25 registration fee for each participant, which will benefit the Southern Lehigh Education Foundation (SLEF) and the Wescoe Community Fund.

The race will begin with lineup at 7:45 a.m., also at the intermediate school.
