Baker Street Bakeshop Specializes in Gluten-Free, Nut-Free Treats

Baker Street Bakeshop is a specialty baked goods business located in the Coopersburg area.

When and how did your business get started?

My mom and I have always had a love for baking and sharing tasty treats with friends and loved ones. Then my 6-year-old son was diagnosed with celiac disease. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the small intestine is damaged by gluten, which is found in wheat, barley and rye. How would we continue to bake without being able to use wheat flour? Determined to find a way, we tested and tested until we found ways to bake that had everyone loving our baked goods—whether they had to eat gluten-free or not, and Baker Street Bakeshop was born.

But we decided not to stop there. Having a nephew who is allergic to peanuts, plus friends who are also allergic to tree nuts, we wanted a bakery free from these allergens as well. We worked diligently, and found suppliers with products free from gluten, wheat, peanuts and tree nuts. By keeping our kitchen completely free of these items, we are proud to provide a delicious option for children and adults who previously had few choices in the baked goods they could eat.

Why did you decide to open your business in the Southern Lehigh area?

I grew up in Center Valley and now live in Coopersburg, so Upper Saucon is my home. In addition to that, it is a wonderful community. Baker Street Bakeshop is a dedicated bakery kitchen located in a residential area and is a home-based bakery, so for us, it all fits together perfectly in Upper Saucon Township. Upper Saucon Township has been very helpful and suppportive of our business.

What is your business best known for?

We are best known for our gluten-free, wheat-free, peanut-free and tree nut-free cupcakes, ranging from classic chocolate and vanilla to fun flavors such as our S'mores Cupcakes and our Chocolate-Covered-Strawberry Cupcakes. We also offer pound cakes, cookies and pies, and everything we make is always free of gluten, wheat, peanuts and tree nuts.

What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?

Most of our customers probably don't know that our owner, Tracy, is a real do-it-yourselfer. Not only has she built the business, but she literally built the bakery it is in. After needing to move the bakery unexpectedly, she took it upon herself to learn everything she needed to know to construct the current bakery kitchen. That's why you will see a Rosie the Riveter's "We Can Do It" sign hanging in the bakery.
