Burglars target Upper Saucon homes, mainly during daylight hours
Recent burglaries in Upper Saucon have prompted residents to wonder if a crime wave was headed to the township. Not so, says township police Chief Robert Coyle. "Compared to last year, we have almost the exact same amount of burglaries." In 2011, Upper Saucon had nine burglaries from Jan. 1 to March 1. This year as of March 4, Upper Saucon has reported 11 burglaries. Break-ins in Valley Green subdivision Feb. 2 part of a larger series of break-ins throughout the Lehigh Valley.
Two men were arrested Monday in connection with a string of four Valley Green break-ins on Feb. 2. Justin R. Snyder, 19, of Alburtis and Jonathan D. Covine, 20, of Coplay, were each charged by Upper Saucon police with two counts of burglary, one count of theft by unlawful taking, and two counts of theft from a motor vehicle. District Judge David Harding set bail at $50,000 each in a video arraignment from the Lehigh County prison. According to the arrest affidavit, both Covine and Snyder entered four homes on Feb. 2. Two were in the 3300 block of Bayhill Drive North, and two were in the 3000 block of Muirfield Road, both in Center Valley. It's is nice that Upper Saucon Police post this kind of information. It'd be really nice if Emmaus Police would do the same. I know for a fact that cars and homes have been burglarized, but it is not listed anywhere on the Borough website or the Patch. How is the community supposed to be proactive against crime if we don't know what's going on?   more ›
