Sands Casino Expansion Wins Approval from Gaming Board

Sands Bethlehem Casino Resort can add 31 new table games, giving it more table games than any other casino in Pennsylvania with 107 new jobs anticipated.

  The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem received approval Tuesday to add 31 new table games, giving it the most table games of any casino in the state, according to a story in The Express-Times. The Sands Casino would expand its gaming floor by 2,600 square feet and move 837 slot machines to make way for the extra table games, according to the story. When the renovations are done, the Sands will have 183 table games. The new games will mean 107 new jobs, a Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board spokesman told the newspaper. With that, Northampton Community College has already announced a new information session for its Casino Training Program. Pa. Casino Revenue Up in August

Revenue at Pennsylvania's 11 casinos - including the Sands in Bethlehem - is up more than 5 percent over August 2011

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported on its web site that August gross revenue at the 11 operating casinos was $210,584,315, a figure 5.7 percent higher than gross revenue from slots in August 2011.  For the 10 casinos that were open for the full month of August in both 2011 and 2012, there was also an increase in slot machine gross revenue of 3.7 percent.  That comparison does not include the Valley Forge Casino Resort which opened at the end of March 2012. Tax revenue to the Commonwealth this August totaled $113,558,137.
