William Hayes is one of eight candidates running in the Southern Lehigh school board May 2013 primary.

Southern Lehigh, St. Michael's Closed Today

Snow and ice are in the forecast for today, causing local school districts to close their doors.

UPDATE 1:30pm- From Southern Lehigh School District:  All evening activities including the Education Committee meeting and the School Board meeting are canceled for this evening due to the possibly of icy road conditions. School Board agenda items will be addressed at the next meeting. If the Education Committee meeting is rescheduled, the new date and time  will be advertised on the district website and in the Morning Call.  Original story:  All schools and offices will be closed today due to the forecast for snow followed by ice during travel times. Solehi Schools Not in Compliance With Fecal Coliform Limits

Lower Milford Board of Supervisors announce Lower Milford Elementary and the entire Southern Lehigh School District received notices about Department of Environmental Protection violations.

The Lower Milford Board of Supervisors has announced that Lower Milford Elementary School and the entire Southern Lehigh School District received notices of violation from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. For the Lower Milford school, it concerned not renewing a stormwater runoff permit in time. For the Solehi district, it concerned violating fecal coliform levels for water. Southern Lehigh Students Compete in High School Computer Fair Today

Twelfth Annual Regional High School Computer Fair is being held at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit in Schnecksville through 2 p.m.

Students from Lehigh and Carbon counties are competing today in the Twelfth Annual Regional High School Computer Fair, hosted by the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 in Schnecksville. Participants come from Lehigh Career and Technical Institute and Catasauqua Area, East Penn, Jim Thorpe Area, Northwestern Lehigh, Palmerton Area, Parkland, Southern Lehigh, Weatherly Area and Whitehall-Coplay school districts. They will display their skills in six different categories: Computer Fair Logo, Digital Movie, Graphic Design, Web Page Design, Programming and Animation.  Winners from today’s competition, which runs through 2 p.m., will advance to the State High School Computer Fair competition at Dickinson College in Carlisle in May.

SoLeHi Sports Scoreboard: Back to School

Fall Sports kick into high gear.

Boys Football Boys Varsity Football lost a heartbreaking season opener to Northern Lehigh, 21-7 (see article). The loss did not hurt the boys' standing in the Colonial League South, since every Colonial League South team lost its opening game. The team travels to Palmerton to take on the Blue Bombers Friday night. The Boys Freshman Team lost its season opener to Emmaus, 26-6. The team has a week off before meeting Pocono Mountain East on Sept. 13. Middle School and JV results were not available in time for this article.  Both teams are off this week and will pick up play next week. Girls Tennis The Girls Varsity Tennis team posted its first loss of the season to Moravian Academy, 1-4, last Monday on its home court. The team bounced back to…
