Major Snowstorm Could Hit Eastern Pa. Next Week

Forecasters are keeping a close eye on computer models that show a big snowstorm could be headed to eastern Pennsylvania around Dec. 19-20

Update 11 a.m. Thursday: WFMZ reports a storm is looking increasingly likely for Tuesday-Wednesday but the big question is whether it will be rain or snow. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of rain/snow on Tuesday night. Original Story: It could be much more than a White Christmas if the Lehigh Valley gets one to two feet of snow next week. The Eastern Pa. Weather Authority says a potentially "monstrous" storm is showing up on a European weather model, according to the following post on the group's Facebook page: Update on next week's storm potential.... this is as monstrous of a storm you can get just about, as modeled on today's 12z European model run. This would be, if correct, a "KU" storm... or one for the history books. …

Weekend Weather Predictions Call for 2-6 Inches of Snow, Sleet

New report puts accumulation predictions higher than original prediction.

It's time to get the snow boots out, folks.  According to Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol, the Lehigh Valley can expect between 2 and 6 inches of precipitation in the form of snow and sleet over the weekend. The snow is predicted to begin overnight tonight and continue through Saturday.  Weather Underground and Accuweather have similar predictions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, in effect until 7pm Saturday.  If a storm develops, it will be the first winter weather of the season, not including the October snowstorm that left the valley blanketed in over 6 inches of snow. Predictions have the snowstorm starting around midnight and continuing through Saturday morning, bringing "All snow north of Quakertown, (with …

Frozen Precipitation Possible Saturday

Snow, sleet and freezing rain are possible throughout the day, according to the latest forecasts.

If you're planning to travel on Saturday, you may want to monitor local weather forecasts, as several are now predicting that a winter storm could affect the region. If the storm develops, it would be the first significant winter precipitation event of the unseasonably mild 2011-2012 season, not including the October snowstorm. As of Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service had issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for east central and northeastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. According to that outlook, "a wintry mix of precipitation is possible from late Friday night into Saturday." Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol with Bobby and Suzy--a popular local forecasting site on Facebook--is also highlighting the possibility of frozen …

Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol Predicts Lots of Snow

Weather watchers Bobby and Suzy have a fast-growing fan base

Starting your own weather service seems a bit like creating your own mail delivery – the kind of thing only new countries and millionaire businessmen do. Bobby Martrich and Susan Haberacker are neither but they managed to launch the “Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol with Bobby and Suzy” 11 months ago and have seen it grow by great gusts. The Weather Patrol, which issues forecasts from its Facebook page, has more than 4,300 fans. Its popularity has encouraged Martrich and Haberacker, both 35, to move the Weather Patrol to its own web site in January and sell advertisements to offset costs and make money for their labors. The business partners plan to drop their names from the title when it moves to www.lehighvalleyweatherpatrol.com   Even after…

A Snowy Halloween in Southern Lehigh

Some Halloween "Snow-tos" from Upper Saucon, Lower Milford and Coopersburg

Upper Saucon Under Winter Storm Watch for Oct. 29

Heavy wet snow could cause problems Saturday afternoon and evening.

A rare October snowstorm is expected to hit our area Saturday and could cause travel problems and power outages as heavy, wet snow accumulates on trees still holding their foliage. Upper Saucon Township is included in the winter storm watch for Saturday issued by the National Weather Service. The temperature will drop to about 34 tonight and we could see snow falling before 8 a.m. Saturday. The weather service predicts rain and snow with about 3-5 inches possible and a high near 39 on Saturday. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Sunday should be much different with sunny skies and a high of 49. The Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol is predicting 4 to 8 inches in our area with the heaviest snow falling Saturday from 5 p.m. until midnight.
