Southern Lehigh Board Secretary Diana Millman tracked down her daughter after seeing her Boston Marathon finish line photos on Instagram.
Southern Lehigh School Board Secretary Diana Millman got a scare Monday afternoon when she walked past a television in the school district administration building. She saw news coverage of explosions at the Boston Marathon. Her 22-year-old daughter—now a student in Boston—lives on Copley Square right next to the finish line. Millman tried to reach her daughter by telephone, but had no luck. She then turned to social media and found photos taken at the finish line by her daughter and posted on Instagram. Fire Chief fears effects of freeze, thaw on aging infrastructure.
Crews have identified the section of aging cast iron gas pipe that may have caused last Wednesday’s deadly explosion, but Allentown’s fire chief still isn’t sleeping easy. “This time of year, I’m concerned all the time as the ground constantly freezes and thaws,” Chief Robert Scheirer said Monday. “A water main break could lead to a gas main break. Bill and Dotty Yanett are seeking refuge at a South Whitehall hotel.
Bill and Dotty Yanett were watching Blue Bloods on television Wednesday night, when the serenity of their evening was shattered by an explosion seven doors down on 13th Street in Allentown. Windows blew out, dressers went crashing, pictures flew off the walls. "It was surreal....like you were at war," said Dotty Yanett, as she sought refuge Thursday morning at Comfort Suites in South Whitehall. Five people, including a four-month-old, were killed in the natural gas explosion. Bill Yanett, retired from his job as a bodyguard for Mack Trucks presidents, rushed to his back door to head outside. Had his roof collapsed from the weight of the snow? But the back door was jammed; he couldn't get out of his house. He ran to the front of the …
