Mom, Son Tussle Over Cigarettes, Police Say

An Upper Saucon Township man is charged with assault and harassment after a fight with his mother over her cigarettes, according to court papers.

A pair of Upper Saucon Township residents got a different kind of lesson on the dangers of cigarettes recently. Daniel Birk, of 4834 Route 309 South, has been charged with assault and harassment following a fight with his mom over her cigarettes, according to Upper Saucon Township Police. Birk went up to his mother's room on the second floor of their home, "without permission, pulled the blanket from on top of her and took her cigarettes," according to court papers. Their verbal fight spilled out of the mother's room and down the stairs to the ground floor, where Birk pushed his mother, causing her to hit her head on the wall at the bottom of the steps, police say. Couple Charged With Simple Assault After Fighting Each Other

A West Lawn couple is charged with simple assault and harassment after getting into an altercation, moving from the Peppercorn Pub to an Orchard Drive residence. Upper Saucon Police responded to a disturbance call around midnight on Orchard Drive. Jeremy Ponstingl, 30, told police that the fight began at Peppercorn Pub and that his girlfriend had struck him in the face. Ponstingl stated the fight continued after the couple left the bar, police say. Meanwhile on Orchard Drive, Jessica Oister, 27, stated that Ponstingl had punched her several times in the head. Officers observed a laceration to Oister’s left ear and Ponstingl’s left eye was bruised and swollen. Oister reportedly admitted to striking her boyfriend but reports do not mention …

Alleged Eye-Gouger Charged with Separate Assault, Same Day

Paul Mindler III, 33, of Coopersburg is charged with a second New Year's Day assault and robbery following reports that he attacked a man in his driveway and took his wallet. This follows Mindler's arrest for allegedly attacking his father and trying to gouge out his eye. The alleged victim walked into the police station in the late afternoon on New Year's Day to report the incident. According to the criminal complaint filed by Upper Saucon Township police, the man claimed Mindler attacked him after dropping off Mindler's girlfriend at Mindler's residence. The man told police that as he was pulling out of the driveway, an ATV pulled in front of the car, forcing it to stop. The driver of the ATV, later identified as Mindler, "jumped off the…

Alleged Assault Leaves Coopersburg Woman Bloody, Bruised

Zachary Boston was found outside his apartment with blood on his hands and arms, police say.

Police say a Coopersburg man shoved his girlfriend onto the ground, causing a cut and injuries to her face after getting into an argument. Coopersburg Police responded to a call of an unwanted person at the apartments at 324 Charles St. According to the criminal complaint, officers arrived to find Zachary Boston, 20, outside the apartment building shirtless and wearing only socks on his feet. Boston had blood on his hands and arms and had been drinking, police say. After talking with Boston, police spoke with his girlfriend, Alexandra Plante, in the apartment building. She answered the door revealing a cut under her eye with redness and swelling to the side of her face, according to police. Boston’s girlfriend claimed the couple had gotten…

Coopersburg Man Charged With Assaulting Father

  A Coopersburg man is charged with simple assault and harassment after an altercation with his father. According to the criminal complaint, Aaron Hamlin, 36, reportedly assaulted his father, James Hamlin, at his residence on Dogwood Drive. Upper Saucon Police responded to the incident. James Hamlin was taken to the ICU at St. Luke's Hospital and reportedly suffered from two fractured ribs and bruising to his spleen and liver. He claims that he was attacked without cause, police say. Hamlin claimed that he was defending himself from his father and attacked in self defense.  He was held in Lehigh County Detention Center and was released on $7,500 bail on Nov. 16th.  A preliminary hearing will be held on December 22nd.

Police: Lower Milford Man Assaulted Father

Brandon J. Matlack hit his dad during an argument, Lower Milford Township Police say.

Brandon J. Matlack, 21, of 7703 Lone Lane, is accused of allegedly hitting his father, James Matlack, in the face and body and threatening to kill him. About 10 p.m. Oct. 20, the father and son reportedly got into an argument and Brandon stuck a knife into a photograph on a wall and threatened to kill James, according to a report filed by Lower Milford Township police. Brandon then allegedly struck his father. The son faces charges of simple assault, criminal mischief and terroristic threats.  Matlack was released on $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28.

ArtsQuest: DeGraw is Still Coming to Musikfest

Singer was assaulted, then hit by a cab in New York on Sunday night, currently hospitalized.

Pop singer Gavin DeGraw, the victim of an attack in New York on Sunday night, will still appear Sunday night for the last Sands Steel Stage concert of Musikfest 2011, an ArtsQuest spokesman has told both The Morning Call and Lehigh Valley Live. TMZ is now reporting that DeGraw is being treated for multiple serious injuries, including a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises. The singer was hit by a cab following the assault by three attackers in New York’s East Village, according to the New York Daily News. Tickets are still available for this year’s Sands Steel Stage finale, starring DeGraw and Train, at $44 and $34.

Local Men Charged with Breaking into Home, Assaulting Resident

The following arrest information was supplied by the Upper Saucon Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Charges: 1.     Simple Assault 2.     Criminal Trespass 3.     Possession of Alcohol by a Minor 4.     Disorderly Conduct Three men -- Keaton David Eisenhauer (18) of Coopersburg, Kyle Brown (19) of Coopersburg and James Keen (18) of Zionsville -- have been charged with breaking into an Upper Saucon Township home and assaulting a sleeping resident.  According to the criminal complaint, the victim stated the three men were at a party in the home earlier that evening and had been asked to leave. The complaint goes on to say that sometime around 3am, the men returned, came into the home through a back basement door and found the victim sleeping. The three then proceeded to "beat [the victim] up while he was sleeping."
