So. Lehigh Library's First 'Book It' 5K a Success [Letter]

The following letter was submitted by Eric Bartosz, who organized the Southern Lehigh Public Library's inaugural 'Book It' 5K held Oct. 13.

It was a perfect fall morning for the inaugural Book It 5K held on the Saucon Rail Trail, which had its base camp set up at the Upper Saucon Community Park pavilion.

Donations from Inside Scoop, Pita Pit, Cap Blue Store, Dunkin Donuts, Weis, Giant and Seven Star Cafe ensured there were plenty of tasty post race snacks, drinks and great music for the crowd to enjoy while waiting for the race awards to be announced and the raffle drawing to begin for over 40 donated prizes.

This first Book It 5K run/walk had about 120 registrants and overwhelmingly the message was clear that the participants and their families hoped this would become an annual race (which benefits the library and serves as a fundraiser for capital improvements on the horizon).

As the organizer of this first time event I can tell you the community support and donations were instrumental in helping the Book It go from concept to reality in a relatively short amount of time.

Based on the feedback we received at the race and over the past couple of days there is every reason to believe this should become an annual signature event of the library that patrons can look forward to including on their race calender every fall.
