Lehigh County Attorney Honored by Women's Business Group

Juliet Dowling, Deputy District Attorney in the Lehigh County DA's Domestic Violence Unit, was awarded the 2013 Nike Award as part of National Business Women's Week, sponsored by Business and Professional Women/Lehigh Valley.

An Emmaus High School alumna who is an attorney in the Lehigh County District Attorney's office was recently honored by a Lehigh Valley Women's Business Group as part of National Business Women's Week.

Juliet Dowling, Deputy District Attorney in the Lehigh County DA's Domestic Violence Unit, was awarded the 2013 Nike Award as part of National Business Women's Week, sponsored by Business and Professional Women/Lehigh Valley, according to a prepared statement by BPW/Lehigh Valley.

“I really want to thank the co-chairs and your organization,” Dowling said during her acceptance speech. “I’m truly honored. It’s completely a surprise. I certainly don’t think of myself this way—but I think part of what this organization does is it helps women think of themselves more along these lines—and for that, I am very grateful.”

The Nike Award is presented to women who have achieved success in the business world, are involved in the community, and present a positive image for working women, the release said.

Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, is a symbol of strength, progress, freedom and triumph, and represents today’s women who are confronting and overcoming barriers and taking advantage of opportunities in business and the professions.

Dowling, who graduated from Emmaus High School in 1982, is a resident of Bethlehem Township, and has been with the District Attorney’s Office of Lehigh County since February 2011.

Previously, she worked in the Public Defender’s Office of Lehigh County, as the Supervisor of the Juvenile Unit. She has also worked for law firms, practicing both family law and criminal law. Prior to that, she worked at what was then the Private Industry Counsel (PIC), now known as Careerlink Lehigh Valley.

Dowling also volunteers once a week at the St. Luke’s Neighborhood Center in Allentown, mentoring at-risk teenagers.
