Southern Lehigh Schools Closed Tuesday Due to Extreme Cold

The Southern Lehigh School District announced Monday evening that the district's schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 7, due to the extreme cold temperatures that are forecast to affect the region.

Highs Tuesday are forecast to be in the single digits, with wind chills of -15 to -20 degrees possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory that will be in effect from midnight Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to begin to moderate.

In the announcement posted Monday on the Southern Lehigh School District website, officials warned that "frostbite can occur within 10-20 minutes with exposure to temperatures this extreme. Please take care if you must go out."

School district offices will remain open on Tuesday, according to their regular schedule, the announcement indicated.
