DeSales University held its mid-year commencement Saturday, Jan. 19, in Billera Hall on the Center Valley campus. During the ceremony, the Rev. Bernard F. O'Connor, OSFS, president of DeSales, conferred degrees upon 156 graduating students for January 2013, including 92 bachelor's and 64 master's.

In addition to the January 2013 degree recipients, DeSales awarded 207 degrees to students in September 2012, including 73 bachelor's and 134 master's. Because there is no formal ceremony in September, the September graduates may take part in the January commencement.

The commencement address was delivered by Lehigh County District Attorney James B. Martin, who has served as district attorney since January 1998. He has more than 22 years' experience as a prosecutor and 40 years' experience as a trial lawyer.

During the ceremony, Anthony and Mary Martocci were acknowledged as the recipients of the DeSales Medal, the highest nonacademic award conferred by the university in recognition of the outstanding contributions to the development of the university through personal service as well as financial support.
