Middle School Flooding Dealt With Quickly, Supt. Says

Quick thinking on the part of school district staff, administrators and teachers helped save the Southern Lehigh Middle School gym floor from damage after water entered the building Aug. 28.

At the school board's meeting Monday night, Southern Lehigh School District superintendent Leah Christman reported on a flooding situation that occurred at the middle school Aug. 28, after approximately 4.6 inches of rain fell in about an hour.

Christman said that after water began "flooding into the middle school very quickly...it was all hands on deck."

Water from the freak storm was able to enter the building underneath two doors, and also through the roof, where some drains functioned improperly, she said.

Thanks to the quick action of teachers, staff and administrators, the brand new gym floor at the school was saved from damage, Christman also reported.

The problem with the roof drains has since been resolved, and an investigation into the seepage that occurred underneath the doors has been launched, she added.
