A DeSales University freshman criminal justice major who saved a friend from drowning in a pool last summer was recently the recipient of a prestigious Boy Scouts of America award.

A DeSales University freshman criminal justice major who saved a friend from drowning in a pool last summer was recently the recipient of a prestigious Boy Scouts of America award presented by the Hawk Mountain Council during a ceremony in Berks County, the Reading Eagle reported.

Xavier Martinez, 18, of Muhlenberg Township, Berks County, dove into nine feet of water to rescue Ifedapo Benjamin before performing CPR on him, the article stated.

Martinez was named Explorer of the Year by Explorer Council 27 and received the Hawk Mountain Council's Life Saving Award, the Reading Eagle article indicated.
