UST Ambulance Corps Takes Over Service for Coopersburg Borough

Coopersburg Borough Council passed a resolution that Upper Saucon Ambulance Corps will provide primary ambulance service for the borough.

The nine-month certification process allows the ambulance corps to administer advanced life support measures including cardiac defibrillation, starting IV medication, and intubation. The Upper Saucon corps is also staffed by certified paramedics. Coopersburg Ambulance Corps is staffed by Emergency Medical Technicians and is certified as a Basic Life Support provider. 

A recent Morning Call article said the move will save the borough its annual ambulance contribution, which amounted to about $17,000 this year. 

According to Coopersburg manager Tim Paashaus, the money isn't the only reason the council decided to switch emergency providers. "This is better for the residents in the long-term," said Paashaus in a phone interview. "The [Upper Saucon Ambulance] corps is certified to provide comprehensive care."

Upper Saucon Ambulance Corps is housed in the Upper Saucon Township building on Camp Meeting Road, less than two miles from Coopersburg Borough Hall.

The move to contract with Upper Saucon Ambulance Corps doesn't disband the Coopersburg Ambulance Corps, said Paashaus. Coopersburg Ambulance Corps currently provides service for parts of Lower Milford and Springfield townships.
