Traffic Count Doesn't Support 3-Way Stop in Limeport Village

As a result of a traffic count made on Blue Church Road, there are no plans to place a three-way stop sign at Blue Church and Limeport Pike in Limeport village, Lower Milford Township.

As a result of a traffic count made on Blue Church Road, there are no plans to place a three-way stop sign at Blue Church and Limeport Pike in Limeport village, a recent post on the Lower Milford Township Facebook page indicated.

The PennDOT traffic count recorded more than 5,000 vehicles per day, which is "far under the total PennDOT needs" to place stop signs at that intersection, the post stated.

However, "in the road" pedestrian signs "will be returned, but placed so trucks and buses can make the turn without running them over," the township announced.

A resident who commented on the announcement, Charlene Stackhouse, said speeding through Limeport is a serious problem and criticized the recent decision to install crosswalks in the village, which she said is "a joke if you're not going to address the traffic and speeding."

Stackhouse said traffic on the pike has "quadrupled" over the past 20 years.

"It's dangerous going to the curb to get mail or doing yard work at the edge of your property [even with reflective vests and orange cones]," she added.

In response, the township posted the following comment:

"You're right. No one obeys the speed limit. This was a point we tried to make to PennDOT during our conversations with them. The supervisors hoped that the crosswalks would be a traffic calmer since PennDOT refused to agree to a 3-way stop. Meanwhile, the police department works as hard as they can to patrol. They have written so many speeding tickets the local district court asked if they did anything else!"

The township also asked for ideas to help improve pedestrian safety in that area.

What do you think? Is a three-way stop needed at Blue Church Road and Limeport Pike? Do you have any other ideas for traffic calming measures in Limeport village? Tell us in the comments.
