$4 Million Approved for Major Road Projects

Work is scheduled to begin soon on Taylor Drive and in the Afton Village development in Upper Saucon Township.

The Upper Saucon Township Board of Supervisors approved borrowing about $4 million to pay for major road improvement projects on Taylor Drive and in the Afton Village development near West Hopewell Road on Monday.

Township manager Thomas Beil explained that the combined cost of the projects is estimated at a little more than $3.5 million.

"The projects came in a little under budget," he said. However, “if we want to move forward with these two major road projects, the township is going to have to borrow the funds," Beil told supervisors.

Beil told the Morning Call that the road projects are expected to begin next week.

A public meeting about the Afton Village roads project, including a presentation of the plans, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the township municipal building, 5500 Camp Meeting Road, Center Valley, he also told the newspaper.

A meeting with residents who will be affected by the Taylor Drive improvements was held earlier this summer.

Board of supervisors chairman Steve Wagner was absent from Monday's meeting.
