Repairs Begin on Two Bridges on Route 378 in Upper Saucon

Repairs have begun on two bridges on Route 378 between Center Valley Parkway and Spring Valley Road in Upper Saucon.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said the contractor will repair the abutments, pier, parapets and wing-walls on the Route 378 bridge over Saucon Creek. Crews also will repair the parapets and wing-walls on the Route 378 bridge over a tributary to Saucon Creek.

Trees will be trimmed and debris removed from the waterways at the bridges.

There will be no long-term lane closures. However, both bridges will be restricted to a narrowed 10-foot-wide travel lane in each direction for the duration of the project.

Also, for the first few days of the project, motorists can expect lane restrictions with flagging as concrete barriers are set in place.

The project is expected to be completed in January 2013, weather permitting.

Road-Con Inc. of West Chester is the general contractor on the
$374,548 project.

Motorists are advised to use caution traveling through the work zone.

The two-span, concrete T-beam bridge over Saucon Creek is 99 feet long and 35 feet, 10 inches wide. It was constructed in 1935.

The single-span concrete arch bridge over a tributary to Saucon Creek is 12 feet long and 18 feet wide. It was constructed in 1935.

On average, 13,570 vehicles travel this section of Route 378 daily.
