Rail Trail Extension's Final Leg to Open Soon

The final leg of the Saucon Rail Trail extension in Upper Saucon Township will allow walkers, bikers and joggers to traverse south from Passer Road to Southern Lehigh Living Memorial Park.

Upper Saucon Township engineer Dennis Harman told the board of supervisors Monday that the final leg of the Saucon Rail Trail extension recently constructed in the township still has not opened.

A section of the extension from Upper Saucon Township Community Park south to Passer Road opened last month.

Earlier this summer the entire length of the extension was projected to open by Aug. 7.

Harman told supervisors that "essentially the construction is done" on the extension, which brings the trail south to Southern Lehigh Living Memorial Park.

He said he was unsure about why the final leg had not yet opened, because he had just returned from vacation, and another employee with knowledge of the trail project had been called away due to a family emergency.

"It's very close to being open the full length," Harman stressed.
