Coopersburg to Challenge 2 Properties' Tax-Exempt Status

One of the properties was identified by Coopersburg Borough Council solicitor Chris Gittinger as Frontier Telephone.

The Borough of Coopersburg plans to challenge the tax-exempt status of two properties in town, solicitor Chris Gittinger told borough council members recently.

Gittinger said one of the properties is no longer occupied by a nonprofit and the other "is Frontier Telephone" on Thomas Street.

Hearings for the two properties were originally scheduled before the county board of assessment in mid-September, but Gittinger said he had requested that they be rescheduled for Oct. 15.

Gittinger described those hearings as the first step in the tax assessment appeals process.

The borough currently has a total of seven tax assessment appeals pending, he said.
