Coopersburg Police Chief Prepares to Become District Judge

Coopersburg Police Chief Dan Trexler, who has been a member of the borough's police department for the past 19 years, is about to begin a new phase in his career as the district judge for the Southern Lehigh area.

Coopersburg Police Chief Dan Trexler, who has been a member of the borough's police department for the past 19 years, is about to begin a new phase in his career as the district judge for the Southern Lehigh area.

Trexler was publicly thanked for his work with the Coopersburg Police Department at borough council's Nov. 19 meeting, where Mayor Jonathan Mack read a farewell letter written by Trexler and told him "we will certainly miss you."

Mack became emotional as he described how he's worked with Trexler for the past decade, and called himself lucky to have been able to work with the chief, whose last day on the police department payroll will be Dec. 27.

"It has been a pleasure to serve such a small community that cares," Trexler said in his letter.

He explained that he is looking forward to protecting and serving the residents of the borough and surrounding areas in a different capacity, as a judge.

Coopersburg Borough Council president Jack Felch called Trexler's move from chief to judge "a significant event" in the life of the borough, and told meeting attendees that the chief will be recognized in conjunction with the borough's annual tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend.

He also reported that the search committee formed to help find a replacement police chief is well on its way to completing its task, although as of Nov. 19, "not prepared" to make an announcement about who will take over the reins of the department.
