Upper Saucon Woman Stole Jewelry from The Bon-Ton, Stein Mart: Police

An Upper Saucon woman faces charges of retail theft, police say.

An Upper Saucon woman, accompanied by her two daughters, allegedly stole about $270 in jewelry and other items from The Bon-Ton and Stein Mart stores in South Mall, court records say.

Jennifer Lynn Carr, 36, of 4157 Bunker Hill Drive North, told police during Monday's alleged incident that she had never been arrested before. But a database check showed she had two prior retail theft convictions in New Jersey, the records say.

As a result, the two counts of retail theft in the South Mall case are a level-three felony. South Mall is in Salisbury Township.

A criminal complaint filed by Salisbury Officer Michael Palonsky says Carr was with her daughters, ages 17 and 7. The court file says nothing about the girls facing any charges.

In addition to the Bon-Ton and Stein Mart items, police allegedly found items from a CVS in the trunk of Carr's automobile. She admittted to taking the Stein Mart items, but apparently made no admission about the CVS items, the complaint says.

The complaint also says:

—Bon-Ton security personnel who took Carr into custody around 1:20 p.m. said she took assorted jewelry valued at $170.

—Carr said she drove to South Mall and that her 17-year-old did not have a driver's license. But another database check showed that Carr does not have a Pennsylvania driver's license. She has a Pennsylvania ID card and a suspended New Jersey driver's license. As a result, she was charged with driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

—Palonsky found her car, a silver 2012 Chevrolet Sonic sedan, in the parking lot. He saw items on the front passenger side floor without a bag or receipts, but with price tags from Stein Mart. After the car was impounded, police found items in the trunk with price tags from CVS. The items were not in a CVS bag and there were no receipts.

—Carr at first denied taking the Stein Mart items valued at $91.94 but later admitted she took them.

Carr was arraigned at 9:30 Monday night by on-duty District Judge Wayne Maura of Bethlehem. She was committed to Lehigh County Prison but posted $10,000 bail and was released, online court records say.
