Pedestrian Struck on I-78, Police Say

Pennsylvania State Police at Fogelsville are investigating a hit-and-run accident in which a pedestrian was injured in Upper Saucon Township.

Pennsylvania State Police at Fogelsville said Sunday that a pedestrian was struck on I-78 in Upper Saucon Township, in what is now being investigated as a hit-and-run accident.

Police said the accident occurred at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, near mile marker 59.6 (westbound), which is located in between the Summit Lawn and Route 309 exits.

According to police, Eric Jonathan Blahut, 33, of Audubon, Pa., "was attempting to flag down a vehicle for a ride" when he was struck by a vehicle that "may have been traveling on the 309 on-ramp to Interstate 78 westbound."

The unknown vehicle, which police said "fled the scene" after Blahut was struck, may have sustained damage to its front and driver's side.

A driver's side mirror from the vehicle—which police said may be a van—was recovered at the scene of the accident.

Blahut was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by Upper Saucon EMS for treatment of "multiple injuries of unknown severity," police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has information about it is asked to call state police at Fogelsville at 610-395-1438.
