His existing relationship with current officers in the Coopersburg Police Department and his knowledge of the Borough of Coopersburg were highly regarded by the search committee that recommended him.

The unanimous vote of appointment came as a result of a recommendation to council by the search committee that reviewed applications following public advertising of the vacancy. Mayor Jonathan Mack stated that Struss was the “right man for the job” and gave his full support.
