Church Workers Found Restaurateur Dead in Cemetery

New York restaurateur Colin Devlin shot himself in the parking lot of Chestnut Hill Church Cemetery in Lower Milford Township.

Fans of restaurateur Colin Devlin have reacted with shock and sadness to his death in Lower Milford Township's Chestnut Hill Church Cemetery parking lot last Thursday.

Devlin, 42, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a suicide note in his car, according to multiple reports. He was a native of Philadelphia.

Workers repairing the church steeple found Devlin on Thursday, according to a Philly.com report.

He apparently drove to Pennsylvania from the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn after a business meeting Wednesday when he found out he was denied a loan. Devlin was likely distraught over business and financial problems.

He may have come to Lehigh County because he and his wife have a second home in Pennsylvania, possibly in Saylorsburg in Monroe County, according to a Lehigh Valley Live report. It is not known why he choose the cemetery parking lot in rural Lower Milford Township to end his life.

Neighbors and customers of Devlin's Brooklyn restaurants called his death tragic; he was a innovative chef and pioneer in fine dining, according to a Huffington Post report.

Devlin is survived by his wife and two children.

He owned DuMont and DuMont Burger in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. A third Devlin restaurant called Dressler closed last month.
