5 Candidates for Coopersburg Police Chief, Council Says

Coopersburg Borough Council is in the process of evaluating applications from individuals who want to be the borough's next police chief.

Coopersburg's current police chief, Dan Trexler, is expected to become the next magisterial judge for the Southern Lehigh area at the end of this year, and a search is under way for someone to replace him.

At borough council's meeting Tuesday night, it was announced that five potential candidates for the police chief job have submitted applications.

Council president Jack Felch said all of the applications were submitted by qualified candidates.

How council wishes to evaluate the five candidates is now open to discussion, but one potential option will be for council to interview them as a "committee of the whole," he indicated.

"There was some concern that we might have a vacancy earlier in the year," Felch also said. "If that’s not going to happen, then we've got till January."

He added that he would like the current council to make the decision about who to hire before council reorganizes in January.

"I think that’s a loose end that I would prefer we not leave," Felch said.
