Classes for New, Expectant Parents Offered by Library

"Bright Beginnings Parent U." will begin Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Southern Lehigh Public Library in Center Valley.

The Southern Lehigh Public Library has announced that it will begin offering a four-week program for new and expectant parents in September.

"Bright Beginnings Parent U." will begin Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. with "Safe Sleep & Shaken Baby," a presentation by Shelly Campf, MSN, RN, CPN and an education specialist in NICU and pediatrics.

Subsequent presentations will be held Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. through Oct. 1 at the library, which is located at 3200 Preston Lane in Center Valley.

They will include:

Sept. 17: "The Baby Brain: Typical Trends in Infant Cognitive Development," presented by Amy L. Saborsky, Psy.D. licensed psychologist

Sept. 24: "My Smart Hands/Baby Sign Language," presented by Dena Ruege and "Car Seat Safety and Child Safety in Public/Child Fingerprint IDs" presented by the Upper Saucon Township Police Department

Oct. 1: "Breastfeeding," presented by Catherine Waltemyer, RN, IBCLC

Registration is required and can be completed online at solehipl.org (click on "Programs," then on "Adult Programs").

Attendees must commit to attending at least three of the four sessions, according to a library flyer.

Infants may be brought to "Bright Beginnings Parent U." if necessary.
