Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Brings Joy to PA

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train delighted people of all ages last month when it made a scheduled stop at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton.

Visitors who came to see the brightly-lit train brought canned food, which they donated to help make the holidays a little brighter for families in need.

According to the Canadian Pacific website, the food donated at each of the holiday train's 150 stops will stay in each local community.

"Since its inception in 1999, we've raised more than $6.4 million and over 2.6 million pounds of food in the U.S. and Canada," Canadian Pacific says on the site.

Entertainers on this year's U.S. holiday train -- who perform seasonal tunes on a boxcar stage -- include The Claytones and Canadian Country Music Hall of Famer Tracey Brown.

Canadian Pacific says it is also matching many of this year's donations in order to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

"The total monetary donation raised at over 50 Holiday Train stops will be tallied and a matching donation, up to US $250,000, will be provided by CP to Feeding America whose member food banks are continuing to provide food and other supplies to those affected by Hurricane Sandy," the rail company says.

Scranton was one of a handful of stops in the Northeast U.S. this year, according to an interactive map posted on the website.
