A Coopersburg man is charged with assault after Upper Saucon police say he attacked his father on New Year's Day.
Paul Mindler III, 33, is charged with simple assault, possession of illegal substances, and harassment after police say he attacked his father.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a residence on Flint Hill Road. When officers arrived, they found Mindler's father "bleeding from the left eye and his face. [Victim's] face was welted." Mindler's father said the injuries happened as the son used thumb pressure in an attempt to gouge out the father's eye.
According to Mindler's father, the son flew into a rage, smashing the kitchen window bow as well as smashing the second-floor windows and furniture. When police entered Mindler III's room on the second floor, they saw "two syringes with orange caps located in plain view on a 2x4 stud in a cut-out opening of the interior wall of the bedroom." Mindler's father told police Mindler III is on methadone and may be using other illegal substances.
