Chinese Scholars Warmly Welcomed to So. Lehigh

Two visiting scholars from China were welcomed to the Southern Lehigh School District at a recent school board meeting.

Two men who traveled a very long way to help teach Southern Lehigh students Chinese were warmly and formally welcomed to the district at the Sept. 9 school board meeting.

He Kun and Feiyu Peng are visiting scholars from China who are teaching middle and high school students this year.

Both men introduced themselves at the meeting, and said they are excited to be living and working in the Southern Lehigh area.

"I've been here for two weeks and I think it's amazing here," Peng said.

He added that "the kids are wonderful," and said he's looking forward to meeting his students' parents.

Kun said he is enjoying living near Coopersburg, where he has a prime view of the area's natural beauty and wildlife, such as deer.

"The house is very beautiful," he said. "We have great neighbors."

Kun added that he's a sports fan who's interested in playing ping-pong with other staff at the high school.

Both men said they are looking forward to helping Southern Lehigh students learn more about Chinese culture, as well as language.

"We're honored to have you here," school board president Jeffrey Dimmig said. "We hope you have a great year. We certainly want to be great hosts."
