News From The State Capitol

Public safety is a key component of the 2013-14 state budget, which includes more than $14 million for the hiring of 290 new state troopers and 90 civilian dispatchers. Funding for violence prevention programs is increased by $4.5 million, and the attorney general’s office will be able to expand local drug task forces and mobile street crime units with an additional $9 million. Members of the House State Government Committee recently held a public hearing at the Capitol on several bills aimed at improving the state’s Right-to-Know Law which governs access to public information. Lawmakers have made it a priority to enhance government openness and transparency in the last decade.
