$200.00
The Arts Project at Penn State Lehigh Valley is offering a special two-day workshop presented by upcoming gallery exhibitor, Thomas Mann. Design for Survival TM, "Entrepreneurial Thinking and Tactics for Artists," will be held from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. on Feb. 1 and 2 at the campus in Center Valley. The workshop fee is $200. Lehigh Valley Arts Council members qualify for a 25 percent fee discount.
This workshop was developed by Thomas Mann to answer a continuing demand from artists for access to small business management know-how and career development. Mann has presented this workshop continuously since 1989 for schools, universities, guilds, art councils, and art centers all around the United States and Canada. The content of these workshops and lectures is applicable to artists working in all mediums.
The first day of the workshop covers Design Vocabularies: what are they and how to use them; De-Mystifying Public Relations; and Pricing your Work: the Pivot Point of Success. The second day allows participants to make presentations of their own work and business practice for a positive critique by Mann and fellow workshop members.
Thomas Mann has been an active participant in the contemporary craft scene in America for over 30 years. His work has been featured in American Craft Magazine, Ornament, Metalsmith, the British magazine CRAFTS, and The New York Times. His work appears in several books on contemporary jewelry, including Thomas Mann, Metal Artist. He has served three times as keynote speaker at the National Arts Educators Conferences.
Mann’s style of jewelry object, known as Techno-Romantic, combines high-tech materials and romantic imagery. He currently exhibits his jewelry and sculpture in more than 200 galleries nationwide and internationally in Canada and Australia.

More About Penn State Lehigh Valley
In 2009, the Penn State - Lehigh Valley campus moved from its home in Fogelsville to a new three-story building in Center Valley. Home of the Nittany Lions, the extension campus offers degrees at every level, including Associates and Bachelor degrees, as well a master's level certification for educators moving into administrative roles. Outside the building is a replica of the Lion Shrine at Penn State's main campus. During the 60's homecoming, defiling the shrine became a goal of rival teams. Now, the original Lion Shrine is guarded by Penn State ROTC. So far, the Penn State-Lehigh Valley Lion has not met the same fate.
