Stahl's Pottery Festival this Weekend in Zionsville

German pottery style will be on display, as well as demonstrations, tours and prizes.

Stahl’s Pottery Preservation Society will present its 24th Annual Summer Pottery Festival from 9am to 4 pm June 18, rain or shine.

The society, made up of only family members, works to preserve the traditional art of redware pottery.  The current site of Stahl’s Pottery was once the residence of Thomas and Alice Stahl.  Thomas and his brother, Isaac, decided it would be the home of Stahl’s Pottery, where they would continue making this Pennsylvania German style of pottery.

The summer festival will feature the following:

  • 32 contemporary potters selling redware, stoneware, Raku, porcelain and other earthenware pottery
  • Guided tours of the pottery site, wood-fired kiln and the museum, with original Stahl’s pottery and artifacts on display
  • Pottery-making and Raku demonstrations
  • Drawing for a piece of redware pottery
  • The recently published book Stahl’s Pottery of Powder Valley will be for sale

 

Also on hand to answer questions will be the great-granddaughter of Thomas and Alice Stahl, Nadine Schmoyer.  “We really appreciate the community’s effort and help to make the festival a success,” she said.  “They help make baked goods, set up and clean up, and help with the activities of the day.”
