Harlem Shake Craze Hits Southern Lehigh School District
Southern Lehigh High School students join in dance craze, post 'SL Harlem Shake' video
Southern Lehigh students have joined the ranks of Harlem Shake-ers.
What began as a simple video of a few guys in costume dancing to a techno beat has quickly turned into one the Internet's latest viral memes.
This week alone, tens of thousands of people have uploaded their version of the "Harlem Shake" to YouTube, including cadets at the West Point Library, students at Lehigh University, and even the Patch editors from Montgomery County.
The YouTube video, posted Tuesday, shows the Southern Lehigh student [cheering] section doing the Harlem Shake, led by a panda bear. It's already garnered hundreds of views.
As of this writing, the following schools have posted Harlem Shake videos:

I find it disappointing that the school district would support a video such as this. I know it's all done in fun, but cut out the simulated sex acts. Just my opinion, but I think it is unacceptable for the school district to allow this.

Chandler, it's all done in fun, as you can see many schools on youtube doing it.
No harm done.

I did watch a few other---they didn't seem as 'expressive' as Solehi. I can honestly say I am happy my kid isn't in the video.

I have to agree with Chandler. I watched all of others and none of the others had the extensive dry humping stuff. Not something you would want to show Grandma and Grandpa...

However, Grandma and Grandpa have probably seen it all in their time. No need to shelter them. It's the high school kids and younger that shouldn't be exposed to stuff like this.

I have watched hundreds of harlem shake videos and the majority include actions much worse than viewed above. Many videos include clothing removed, people standing on their heads, and crazier more dangerous things. This was done outside of school time, while plenty of other schools are making videos with their teachers during educational class time. It was meant to be very safe and fun, at the end of the basketball game after the parents left the stands.

You have watched hundreds of these?? Really?? The four I watched were enough!

Not really why I'm paying tax dollars for this? And my kid would have some explaining to do. Dry humping now acceptable behavior? We weren't even able to wear skirts that went above our finger tips with arms fully extended! Southern Lehigh - - get control and get this garbage off the internet! ~ a spartin

Not really sure - why I'm paying tax dollars for this?

Yeah I know its bad, I have seen so many, but with over 4,000 videos being uploaded daily, it is all over the place and even as I watched Fox News they made their own video with the same things in it.

I don't even have an issue with the fact that it's HS kids - - what I do take issue with is that it is being recorded ON school property!

....and because 'everyone else is doing it' makes it ok? Guess it's the mentality these days......

Sorry, but "everybody else is doing it" has never been a good argument. The videos' posted of area colleges were more tame then the one from SL. It's not shocking, it's just kind of gross and not especially humorous, although I did like the costumes.

There are much worse things these kids could be doing in their spare time. It's a silly video of the latest craze sweeping the younger generation. Let them be kids, they have their whole life to be adults.

I am sure they are doing much worse things--in fact, I am 100% sure they are. For a teen to be willing to put this out there for all to see--just imagine what they are doing that is unseen by the public. But there are much better things they could be doing beside making raunchy videos of the "latest craze". Kids need to be responsible for their actions too or they end up as irresponsible adults. You can be kids without being disrespectful or having to do the "latest craze". Be an individual and stop running with the crowd. And their parents should be embarrassed by it.

I think the administration should be shown this video. As a parent I'd be having a sit down with my kid...... I think sometimes kids and people forget that not everything needs to be recorded. Too many people are desensitized these days and the lines between acceptable and inappropriate behavior have been blurred beyond recognition.

Chandler, to be honest, you're embarrassing yourself. You're making a big deal out of nothing. And to say you're "100% sure" that the kids are doing much worse things is just an ignorant statement. Have some confidence in the next generation, because we're going to need them. The more you rant the more you sound like a big baby and the more you astray from the true essence of what this video is, and that is simply a few kids having a good time.

I don't feel embarrassed. I am sure--not all kids--but if you think they are not, you are wearing blinders. But I totally agree with Sunshine about the desensitization of people. It's a slippery slope. Glad the students also have the sensitivity to remove it. I applaud them for that!

The video had been removed hours ago because the students are respectful enough to understand the point of views of adults without the need of administration. The video was all out of fun and it's been removed so it's over with now.

Thank you for your responsible decision to remove it. Good move.

@SL Student Body: I applaud your decision to remove the video. However, I don't agree with your decision. I watched the video and didn't quite get the entire video, but that is okay. The video appeared to be done in a fun spirited manner that didn't cause any harm to anyone at all.
