Solehi Board Celebrates Being 'Top Valley Workplace'
Southern Lehigh Superintendent Leah Christman ended Monday night's meeting of the Southern Lehigh School Board by presenting the board with a cake in honor of the district being named a top place to work recently.
If the fact that Southern Lehigh Superintendent of Schools Leah Christman served cake to the Solehi School Board at the end of Monday night's meeting seems a bit unusual, that's because Southern Lehigh is an unusual school district.
Indeed, Southern Lehigh is the only school district to earn a place on The Morning Call's 2013 list of top Lehigh Valley workplaces -- a distinction that makes Christman quite proud.
All week long, she explained, while presenting the cake to the board, a similar cake -- displaying the Top Lehigh Valley Workplace logo -- was enjoyed in each building in the district. And, because the board is a big part of making Solehi such a special place to work, Christman felt that the board deserved a slice of celebratory cake too.
In a statement issued by Christman to Patch earlier this month in announing Solehi's place on the Top Workplaces list, she explained that the evaluation for the Top Workplaces program is based upon feedback from an employee survey sponsored by The Call and Workplace Dynamics completed by many Solehi staff members in 2012.

Seriously? How many other schools chose to pay to be part of this survey?

None- The survey was free to everyone who participated. There were fees for companies who chose to advertise in the Morning Call flyer, or for those who paid for a comprehensive data report on the results. Southern Lehigh did neither. NO district funds were expended to participate.

I agree 100 percent with this Award. My two Sons have been in this School District since Kindergarten and are now in the 6th and 7th Grades. I have never seen such a happier and dedicated staff of Teachers. This reflects on my kids Education, which has been simply amazing. We are so fortunate to live in a District that is light years ahead of the rest in technology and academics. I truly feel my taxes are well spent and deserved. This would not at all be possible if it were not for the District having the right People in place. People create the environment, and we have the best! Congratulations!

Agreed, I am a little dissapointed with the first comment. I have lived in the district my entire life, I am a Solehi graduate and my 3 children get to enjoy the great system we have.
Stew, maybe you don't have to deal with the school system:no kids, kids out of school or you are just one of those people that have to complain to get attention and make it a financial question.
We all pay taxes and if this is a tax question why not look at the whole picture.
