Solehi School Board Switch-up: Dimmig Elected President

Previous officers switch seats on Southern Lehigh School board.

Three Southern Lehigh School Board members seemingly played musical chairs during the board's reorganization meeting Thursday night.

Former vice president Jeffrey Dimmig was nominated by the board for 2013 president. With no objections, Dimmig's appontment was effective immediately.

Dimmig has been a resident of Upper Saucon Township for 12 years and has served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an artillery officer and military prosecutor. He is currently in the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.

Incumbent board member Corinne Gunkle will fill Dimmig's former position of vice president.

"One of our goals for 2013 is to continue improvements in technology," said Gunkle. "We also need to continue with Project Red."

Project Red is a national education movement that believes to have created a design for schools to use technology most effectively.

Former president Dr. Thomas McLoughlin will fill Gunkle's former position of secretary.

For those of you who don't know Jeff personally, the article fails to mention his intelligence, integrity and that he's an all around great guy. He has also recently become a father. The Bernardino family applauds the decision of the school board. Way to go Jeff!

Now that all my kids are out of the district, I fully support Jeff and his "never raise taxes" and "cut everything" approach to buget management. From what I could see from the few meetings I attended, he voted against everything, and if we never raised taxes like he want's I guess we'd be in worse shape than Easton now. Isn't his wife employed by the district??? Now hows that for a conflict....

Congradulations Jeff, an excellent move. I hope this will slow the relentless yearly tax increases we've been experiencing. My wife and my school taxes have increased 70% over the last 10 years, while my social security has increased only 27% over the same period. We just can't continue this trend, after 40 years I think we've paid our share.. Jeff, thanks for your service to our country and our community.

I agree.... my kids got a good education, but now, I'm all for having the district go to pot, and save the money. Jeff, with his never raise taxes position, is the perfect guy to pull this off.... only problem is, now he'll actually have to specify what he'll cut to get there, but what the heck, I don't care if the schools suck. I just want low taxes !!! Go Jeff !!!!
