Jon Walters and Steve Lundy Join Coopersburg Borough Council
A passion for Coopersburg led both to serve a 3-year term for Coopersburg
Coopersburg Borough Council gained two new members in the new year. Jon Walters and Steve Lundy will serve from 2012 to 2015.
Walters, 70, a borough resident since 1983, works for the Salvation Army as director of the service extension department and is married with three children and three grandchildren.
He took classes in music and psychology at the University of Dayton before attending the Salvation Army School for Officer Training.
In the Salvation Army, Walters works to provide services to areas outside of Salvation Army facilities. According to Walters, his department aided around 60,000 people with senior care, fuel costs and other services.
Before working for the Salvation Army, Walters had a job as national account manager for Armco Steel.
When asked why he ran for council, Walters said he supports Mayor Tim Paashaus and Councilman Jack Felch and became interested in running for council.
Walters says he ran for council after Paashaus approached him, but it's his love of Coopersburg that really attracted him to the job.
“I want to make Coopersburg a unique, historic town and a pleasant and family-oriented community,” he said.
He is an admitted fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.
Lundy, 29, is an electrical engineer for Lutron Electronics and has lived in Coopersburg since 2007. He is married and is a deacon at Calvary Bible Fellowship.
He and his wife are expecting a baby boy in late February.
Lundy graduated from Penn State with a degree in electrical engineering and works in the Window Systems Department at Lutron.
Lundy says he'll take up the cause to end the sewer moratorium in Coopersburg.
During his time on Council, Lundy says he would like to help move meetings into the 21st century utilizing technology. “I’d like to bring us into the digital age,” he added, suggesting the borough make use of emailing lists.
“I’m eager to learn,” said Lundy, who ran as a write-in candidate.
Lundy is a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Red Wings.
