Four Republicans are seeking their party's nod for a six-year seat on the Upper Saucon Board of Supervisors.

There are no Democrats on the primary ballot.

Seeking the Republican nomination, according to an unofficial list from the Lehigh County voter registration office, are:

  • Phillip Spaeth, a former township supervisor
  • Doris A. Clegg, vice chair of the township Environmental Advisory Council
  • Joe Rizzuto, co-owner of Rizzuto Brothers construction company
  • Gerard Anthony, member of the township Environmental Advisory Council

John E. Gilda, vice chair, is not seeking re-election to the board.

Phil Spaeth was voted out of office after supervising during, and fully allowing, a massive Conflict of Interest. He was UST’s Board of Supervisors Chairman while the former Solicitor and the former Manager jointly operated a land business “manipulating” supervisors to rezone land they personally owned to valuable high density. Does the township really need someone that allows a massive Conflict of Interest by his immediate subordinates to take place for many years? Look out for Conflict of Interest to return in a big way in Upper Saucon Township if Spaeth returns to office. The developer currently on the board will have gotten his buddy on the board as well. It will not be long before very high density zoning, the next phase of township development, becomes the norm in UST. Things will be bad enough with an increase in future high density in the township without outright conflict of interest in the Board of Supervisors.

The Greek translation of quod erat demonstrandum is “What was required to be proved”. I guess you may have forgotten about the letter of response from the State of Pennsylvania Ethics Commission advising that Board of Supervisors (at the Board’s request) that “the Ethics Act would not preclude public officials or employees from purchasing acres of ground in the township and that public employees or officials should not be put in a lesser position as compared to any other private citizen regarding that public official’s or employee’s participation in private matters”. It is also public record that the Board of Supervisors hired Independent Counsel to monitor and review all material relating to this matter. I would be happy to discuss this with you anytime, face to face at the Upper Saucon Township Building. If you will not identity yourself, I will not debate you in this forum over an issue which occurred in 1988.
Furthermore if you are so interested in informing with” facts rather than emotions, misunderstandings and half truths” where is the whole truth and why are you hiding behind the anonymous QED? It makes one wonder what conflicts of interest you are hiding.

Did a little research Clegg & Anthony were both Democrats last fall and switched to Republican this spring. (just in time to run for office) Both are on the environmental council which keeps wanting to increase our property taxes or EIT taxes to pay to fund their council. BUYER BEWARE these are NOT Republicans

""Facts rather then emotions"" Mr Spaeth !"REALY" Records and facts can prove while you were a former Supervisor that you agreed to a subdivision in which a property owner had his property combined to a developers property without the property owners knowledge or approval so as the Developer didn't have to comply with several land development requirements . Go back in the township records and look it up for yourself. Look for the Shaffer Subdivision. Those actions today are criminal Mr Spaeth . You don't deserve a second chance as Our Township supervisor.
